Every estimate on HomeServicePrice is calculated by a dedicated Cost Engine — not guessed by a chatbot.

We start from national labor and materials benchmarks for each specific problem, then apply a local cost factor based on your ZIP code and metro area, job complexity, and where relevant home size and emergency service. In short: national benchmark x geographic factor x complexity x property factors = your local range.

We show honest ranges rather than a single false-precision number. Our AI assistant interprets your description and asks a few relevant questions, but it never sets prices — the Cost Engine does the math deterministically. Estimates carry a confidence badge: ZIP/metro-level data is high confidence; state-level is medium; national fallback is low.
